I'm an ambitious former army officer turned entrepreneur. I'm still figuring out my life, but I know that it should involve a good woman or it'll be empty. I try to be "content with enough". I need a woman this is motivated to stay fit and that loves life. I'm attracted to well-read women...not so much to make-up, earrings, fancy shoes, or nail polish. I need someone that will hold me to high standards and stay in shape with me. I'm attracted to genuineness. I live in Guatemala, but I come back to the States frequently (1-2 months a year) I do long-distance fine (without cheating), but I know it's not for everybody.

some rambling details about myself-

I've lived in rural and suburban East Texas, posh and Bavarian Germany, redneck and hipster Georgia, and hot hot El Paso. I've been to approx 20 countries, shaken hands with generals peasants, been shot at, and romanced a wonderful person on top of a castle. I've been the only white guy in a hotel in Tangiers and dined world class cuisine with yuppies in Laguna Beach. It takes a lot to wow me sometimes, but live music, history, nature or deep conversation will always do the job. I enjoy going out, but I'm not a party animal. I tear up at good movies. I'm an introvert, but I know how to work a crowd if I need to. I'm super casual most of the time, but there are some inescapable truths about wearing a custom-fit suit.

I grew up on the edge of a moderate-sized city, within walking distance of the forest. I'm equal part city-slicker and nature lover. I feel as comfortable watching a symphony as watching the stars over a campfire. I was in Cub Scouts for 2 years and Boy Scouts for 1 year, before being kicked out along with my best friend for getting too uppity on a camping trip. I guess I've always had an issue with authority.

I'm not "rich", but I did save enough to retire to some place like Thailand if I wanted to......but I want to build a company or two because I've been bitten by the entrepreneur bug. I want to parlay my experiences into something outside of America, and through process of elimination, I have decided to move to the highlands of Guatemala (city of Xela) where it feels like spring all year long. I don't how long I will live there, but I want to try it for at least 2 years. I'm currently in the process of creating an import company there.

I was involved with the U.S. Army for approx 12 years, including 8 years active duty in the infantry before getting out as a captain. I deployed to Iraq for 2 years. In the military, I did everything from jump out of planes, raid houses, sleep in the rain, create mindless PowerPoint, escort VIPs and detainees, coordinate 100-kilometer logistics convoys, and plan battalion-level missions.mostly under the watchful eye of people that wanted to harm us (I would have too)

I was an infantry platoon leader in combat for 1 year in Iraq and a battalion staff officer the 2nd year. I did an average job, with a few strokes of brilliance. The army has been both the best thing and the worst thing that ever happened to me. I saw people get hurt. I made good decisions and plenty of horrible decisions. I saw things that saddened me, and I saw things that uplifted me. Army travel allowed me to see the world and hone my skills as a leader of men. It also might have ruined me in a few ways.but I owe my military experience for so much.

Above all, the military taught me much about how world operate, but as the years went on, alas, I found myself disagreeing with my country's foreign policy. I voted for Bush back in the day-oh well, I was young. Nowadays, I get my news from a variety of print magazine and online RSS feeds, and I try to form my opinions based on the golden rule and trying to love thy enemy. I'm an amateur historian-I know a fair amount when it comes to history, and few things excite me as much as pausing to stare at some ancient ruin and trying to picture myself there when it was alive.

I love being in nature w/ friends.

I need someone that holds me to the highest standard.

I need a mature woman that has a healthy relationship with diet and fitness and that is not a slave to bad habits. I need someone that wants to build a healthy life together with someone else. I'm NOT a teetotaler by ANY means (god knows I've done my share of hard drugs), but I need someone that wants to be healthy and wants it more than the average person. I need someone that looks at food as a source of nutrition first and entertainment second. Same goes for fitness....I'm not a nutcase, but I do have a drive to stay fit....my partner should too. I'm not strong enough to pull another human being onto the path of embracing being healthy in a holistic way....you probably need to have reached that place on your own by now. BUT...if you don't mind being motivated to get on the train I'm on, then maybe we can make it work. In other words, I need a partner that is down to stay fit. I want to be able to exercise and stay "fit" with a woman and not have the issue deteriorate into some melodrama....sometimes a cigar is a cigar....and sometimes a guy just wants a woman that is motivated to use her body wisely. It's a big turn-on.

I need someone that can slow down to enjoy the finer points of life... capable of ignoring a phone call or listening to an hour-long talk without going crazy..

I'm attracted to anyone that is driven...someone that has hopes and dreams and is acting on them or at least trying to act on them.

It is a turn-on if a woman has a healthy respect for money. So many people leak money away on all kinds of crap they do not need.... I do not do that....and I don't want to be with someone that has bad spending habits. Although money cannot buy happiness, I respect it too much to just haplessly give it away after earning it.

Makeup, nail polish, earrings, and jewelry do not impress me at all. (H/T Shania Twain)

I need someone that is determined to keep their body attractive into old age (I'm convinced it can be done through good diet and fitness). It takes discipline, but I need someone that thinks that the discipline is worth the gain.... "forward thinking"

I need someone that is capable of unlearning bad things and re-learning.... I challenge convention all the time, and I want someone that is cool with that. I am not the same person I was when I was 22, and I don't find it attractive when people are recalcitrant in their beliefs so much that they cannot even entertain the other person's point of view and discuss it without arguing.

I need someone that can entertain an idea without agreeing with it.

I need someone to share a life with. For all the fine things in this world, they don't count for shit if you can't share them with someone you love. I need monogamy and a romantic person. I need someone to trust.
